What do you have to do to get Man and Dog to work together in the hunt for food? It is thought that the first cave people may have had canine help even back when they hunted mammoths. A well-trained hunting dog is an absolute asset for the successful hunter. This can mean a bird-hunting dog or coon hunting dog, a retriever or anything else.

Retrievers and pointers require different hunting methods from fox hounds or dogs trained to hunt bear. The one common factor in training the hunting dog is obedience, because it doesn't matter what kind of game you are hunting, you need the dog to understand and obey the hunter. Even better, is combining obedience training with the natural and basic instincts of your dog; but this requires time, love for dogs and a lot of patience.
Not everyone makes a good dog trainer. It takes a special understanding of canines, persistence and consistency. While there aren't any degrees offered in gun dog training, there are a variety of courses that can be found which are offered on the internet.

After searching these and deciding on the type of training you want, you have to remember that successful training is focused and time consuming. So how do you get started?

Well, you could hire a professional, go observe some professional training sessions. . . or you could map out a course of action using basic training techniques. One thing professional trainers have learned is that having a well-trained hunting dog in the session positively influences the dog that is being trained. Sort of "monkey–see, monkey-do" training technique. Don't rule out the usefulness of DVD's and videos as training tools. Once you have mastered the basic techniques of retrieval, pointing and flushing out the prey, don't forget that these techniques need to be used in the "field", so the dog learns to apply the lessons outside of your backyard.
For further training tools and accessories, check out:

The Power of Positive Dog Training is for everyone who wants to have a harmonious happy relationship with a dog. (...)

The Power of Positive Dog Training is for everyone who wants to have a harmonious happy relationship with a dog. One of the wonderfully written dog training books is by Pat Miller, entitled “The Power of Positive Dog Training”. Dog trainer Pat Miller also believes that kids can be even better trainers than adults. Pat is training editor and a regular contributor to The Whole Dog Journal and the author of The Power of Positive Dog Training.

Understanding Being Positive

What exactly do we mean by the power of positive dog training?

The answer shouldn’t be too complex, though we can elaborate a lot on it: basically the power of positive dog training means the ability to develop skills and obedience in your dog while avoiding physical punishment. From a certain point of view, the power of positive dog training only implies a shift of attitude, a different approach to our four-legged companions. The main aspect of the power of positive dog training is to see your pet as a creature that needs love and a good environment. Canines are very tender animals that attach to the family and the environment, therefore, the power of positive dog training should work wonders on them. Most animal centers now recognize and widely use the power of positive dog training, and of course, people find it more appealing to take their pet to a place where it will be well taken care of.

The Positive Power technique, a nonviolent process, helps us develop our empathy and understanding, making us more humane-and more human; and thus more deserving of the company of dogs whose virtues we so often fail to live up to. Dog owners and trainers alike will benefit from a clearer understanding of how changing their own behavior will result in a well-behaved dog. Covering all aspects of training, and with a strong emphasis on understanding the breed's psyche, the Miller book is a comprehensive and invaluable companion for all GSD enthusiasts and trainers, both novice and experienced. The Power of Positive Dog training is a complete guide to understanding and treating canine separation anxiety. A practical, down-to-earth, logical understanding, and use of the body language of dogs. Learn about breeding for temperament, socialization, understanding the dog's mind, positive learning experiences and overcoming problem behavior. This book shows a revolutionary new way of understanding the relationship between humans and domestic dogs, and a more complete understanding of how dogs and people communicate.

Try the power of positive dog training for yourself and see what it is like.

Accomodations can be found in Rangely, CO just 18 miles south of Dinosaur, CO or in Vernal, UT which is about 15 miles west of Jensen, UT. Grass is scarce in this part of the country, so the dogs had to be content with pebble-based landscape at the small and well-kept Budget Host Inn in Rangely, CO. This was surprisingly well-equipped with a fridge and microwave, located down the street from a great Mexican restaurant with rates of about $60 per night. Sorry we don't have any pictures. . .

Discover why Clicker Dog Training is a brilliant way to properly train and bond with your puppy or older dog. A popular training model, this behaviour modification training is widely known as one of the most successful, humane and effective ways to shape new behavior in dogs and extinguish any existing behavior problems.

A method that includes Classical Conditioning, it is an exciting way of training and communicating with your dog in a positive, reward based method which relies on co-operation, consistency, and repetition. When Classical Conditioning is combined with the effectiveness of Operant Conditioning, the clicker dog training method has brilliant results. Did you know that clicker training is one of the few styles of training that can be used on puppies that are only a matter of weeks old, and is fantastic for big heavy dogs? Clicker dog training is not only used on dogs, but is also used on other animals such as horses, birds, and dolphins.

How The "Clicker Method" Works

Clicker dog training is an amazing technique that is easy to learn and a powerful and versatile training tool. The whole idea of clicker dog training is very simple and easy for any dog owner to learn and put into practice in no time at all. This type of training is more precise than verbal praise and works at a distance.
While utilizing a proven behavioral science methodology to clearly communicate and interact with our dogs, this system is better than training a dog using voice commands, because the device will generate a consistent sound that will always be the same, marking a certain behavior to be followed with a motivating reward. The clicker dog training system doesn't use any forms of punishment or force which will be much better for your dog's temperament. It just simply reinforces good behaviour.

Getting Started

The only items you must have to really start this type of dog training is first a dog clicker, treats, and leash. The conditioned reinforcer used in clicker dog training is the click sound. The next simple step in getting started with clicker dog training is now making sure that the clicker is working for you and your dog. What you will need to do next is schedule different periods throughout the day, or a particular regular training session on each day.

Clicker Training is the fastest growing dog training method in the field . Soon your dog learns to start thinking and using his creativity. With the clicker system, your dog learns to learn. and all basic dog obedience can be learned within three weeks.

If you are looking to enter the dog training market with a great resume, and study from home when possible, The Animal Behavior College (ABC) may be worth a look. The ABC Dog Obedience Instructor Program is structured to offer you the convenience and cost of a home-study program with the added benefit of working one-on-one with some of the most talented dog trainers in the industry.

ABC's comprehensive curriculum is 11 stages long and encompasses over 800 pages. The first stages of the curriculum give you a strong foundation in academic and theoretical knowledge about dogs. Once a strong foundation has been established, you will be given the authorization to observe and participate in dog training sessions taught by Animal Behavior College's mentor trainers. This is a priceless component of the curriculum, as you will have the opportunity to see the experts in action.

How Much Does It Cost?

Tuition for the ABC dog obedience instructor program ranges from $2695 to $3450 depending on the payment arrangements made at the time of your enrollment. This fee covers ALL materials required for completion of the 54 units program. That means you receive the in-home study portion as well as the hands-on training with an ABC mentor trainer. While most dog trainer programs offer this invaluable one-on-one training experience can cost up to $10,000 or more, our program offers this incredible feature at a fraction of that amount.

Dogs can be very sociable. In fact, they sometimes get too sociable and get aggressive. That is why it is important to train the dogs to control their behavior. Moreover, dog trainings are important to avoid dog biting incidents. Statistics show that 77% of dog biting cases are mostly those that are within the family. Hence, with dog training, bad habits are removed and dogs have better control with their feelings and behavior towards environmental and social variables.

dog training is what most experts define as "positive reinforcement." This refers to the way people reward their dogs with treats, praises, or both whenever their dogs show positive behavior.

Through positive reinforcements, dogs will be able to comprehend that treats and praises will come whenever he shows good behavior. For example, when the owner gives his dog some treats for obediently obeying his commands, the dog will think that obeying commands when told equals treats.

But this does not necessarily mean that when the dog did not obey the owner's commands, punishment is needed as counter-reinforcement. This should not be the case becausepunishments will only make the matter worst. What will happen is that the dog will be confused and it will begin to doubt your feelings.

The next thing that humans must remember when training their dogs is that people should avoid training their dogs into bad habit. Actually, many people are not aware they are doing thisbut there are instances wherein the people's reaction towards some behavior of the dogs will inadvertently train the dog in a bad way.

For example, when dogs bark, it is common especially when they do that because they see something strange or unfamiliar things. But, when dogs continue to bark, even if it includes a familiar person, that becomes a problem.

In this case, most people have the inclination to yell and tell their dogs to shut up. This particular reaction of dog owners will confuse their dogs and will only make them understand that the reason why their owners are yelling is because they are also enjoying the shouting scene and that they are "barking" along with their dogs.

The key point here is to avoid paying attention to the dog. In time, he will stop. It's when the owners should reward their dogs.

And, as they say, positive reinforcements reap positive results.
